The sessions

Numbered in the order they were processed, not the order they happened, so the numbering and the dates can disagree. Session files are never edited after the fact; corrections happen in the profiles and the shared map.

01

Compression, collectivism, Heisenberg

Evening at Dan's; kids upstairs. Leland opens with air traffic control on two carried-over ideas; it ends with a Game of Life music toy built on an airplane.

1 · Is an LLM the smallest version of itself?

Irreducible only under a lossless constraint. Landed on Kolmogorov complexity — meaningless without a specified interpreter.

2 · The royal flush

Name five arbitrary cards and that hand is rarer. Meaning is ascribed by selection. Full agreement.

3 · Do enormous numbers exist?

Map and territory versus the payoff record of formal extension. Unresolved and worth returning to.

4 · No communication without abstraction

Funes, Bohm, and a psychedelic journey that kept answering not exactly. The epistemic floor for the night.

5 · Heisenberg, Venice, time-indexed rightness

Napoleon ends Caesar's literal political descendant in Caesar's name. The strongest joint construction of the night.

6 · Apparatus theory

Nothing has an essence; value is in the collaboration of elements. Is fire good? Depends whether you're wet or burning.

7 · What is AI propitious toward?

The session's largest thread. Golf course and jungle, then the jaguar with a bazooka. A directional bet against a cycle.

8 · Worse is better

The cathedral builders were paralysed by coherence. Unix flags are sediment. “It's history.”

9 · Decline is not death

The population bottleneck under ten thousand. Righteousness as a failure of projection-checking.

10 · The Tomochichi courthouse

Seek what they sought. The dead grandmother's joke did the actual work: your DNA is in this, this is your child.

11 · Paul Rudolph and rules that imply a world

Inside one space you sense the rules continuing past what's built. You possess the whole; you traverse it one room at a time.

12 · The Game of Life music instrument

A composition nobody can hear in full. You choose a starting configuration; that determines your sliver.

13 · Find the new hard things

Not “make the hard things easy” forever. Cars didn't shorten the trip to town — they asked how far you get in a day.

Left unresolved
Where the map starts to diverge · whether history is arc-shaped or we read arcs into it · a reduced symbolic model for a network's interior · why we tolerate a differentiation in conditions · one concrete new hard thing
